Sopogy has pioneered the concept of MicroCSP™ using its mirrored concentrating solar thermal solar collectors to create high quality thermal heat. This heat is used in the industrial process and as solar steam. The International Energy Agency has estimated that only 17% of final energy consumption is for electricity while 47% of final energy consumption is in the generation of thermal energy¹. What we do
Sopogy Inc. invented, designs, manufactures and markets a proprietary concentrating solar power technology known as MicroCSP. Our products are used to create solar steam or industrial process heat. Our products create heat at different ranges: SopoFlare up to 250 degrees F, SopoNova up to 350 degrees F, SopoHelios up to 450 degrees F, SopoTitan up to 550 degrees F. All our products use the SopoSoft operating system that includes a tracker and field automation control package. We sell to the Oil & Gas industry who use our technologies to generate fossil fuel free solar steam and the Commercial & Industrial sector who use our solutions as an energy efficiency alternative.
In nearly all of our thermal energy markets, Sopogy's MicroCSP systems have the shortest paybacks of all other commercialized solar options. This is achieved thru our patented concentrating technology using mirrors with optics. Our technology platform enables us to produce a low cost but highly efficient solar collector. We combine that with our low cost thermal storage solution and plant software which enable low cost installation. Low costs with high efficiencies equal low paybacks.

Sopogy was originally founded in 2002 by the Honolulu, Hawaii based clean-technology incubator Energy Laboratories. We have been venture capital backed since 2006 with our primary investors being Mitsui and Co,Ltd., Darren T. Kimura, Black River Asset Management an independently managed subsidiary of Cargill, Inc., Tradewind Capital Group, Enerdigm Ventures, Kolohala Ventures, 3M, SunEdison, Sempra Energy, Hawaii Renewable Energy Development Venture, and the Hawaii Hydrogen & Renewable Energy Fund.
Mega-CSP technologies including Power Tower and Fresnel operate at the Super Heated Steam levels which are complex to design, install and maintain and requires critical mass, usually over several hundred megawatts in project size. Sopogy pioneered solar thermal energy systems around Solar Steam profile which has unlocked significant project advantages. At solar steam temperature and pressure range, parts and fittings are low cost and labor is easily found and installations are quick. Systems operate automatically and complete solar fields do not require water. Also, Sopogy's MicroCSP products are flexible in use and can be installed for use in Power, Air Conditioning and Process Heat applications.
Sopogy was the first in the solar industry to utilize a "fabless solar" manufacturing model. Similar to the fabless semiconductor industry we specialize in the design and sale of solar system hardware. We outsource the fabrication to our specialized manufacturers. This allows us to benefit from lower capital investment costs and focus on research and development so we can constantly improve our products. We are also not tied to long term amortization of any manufacturing equipment so we can change and improve our products to continually deliver the best products to our customers.
